To investigate the therapeutic effect of Panax notoginseng saponins on hyperlipidemia and to explore its pharmacological effects, this study randomly selected 60 patients with hyperlipidemia from February 2014 to February 2015. All 60 patients were given Xuesaitong dispersible tablets. The blood lipid changes and blood flow of patients after treatment were compared and analyzed. After treatment, the TG value, TC value, LDL-CH value and HDL-CH value of blood lipids were compared with those before treatment. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). The blood flow of the patients was compared with that before treatment, and the difference between the groups was statistically significant. Panax notoginseng saponins have many functions such as lipid-lowering and anti-thrombosis, inhibition of platelet aggregation, fiber degeneration, anti-arrhythmia, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation. They are widely used in the treatment of diseases such as cardiovascular system and respiratory system.

To investigate the clinical efficacy of Panax notoginseng saponins combined with aspirin in the treatment of cerebral infarction, a total of 120 patients with cerebral infarction treated from August 2015 to October 2017 were enrolled in the study. They were randomly divided into the treatment group and the control group, 60 cases each. The treatment group was treated with total saponins of Panax notoginseng and aspirin. The control group was treated with only aspirin. The therapeutic effect, platelet aggregation rate, recurrence rate and complication rate of the two groups were compared. Results showed that the total effective rate of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group. After treatment, the NIHSS scale of the patients in the treatment group was significantly lower than that of the control group. The platelet aggregation rate was significantly lower than that of the control group, and the recurrence rate was significantly lower than that of the control group. The complication rate was also significantly lower than that of the control group. The study concludes that the total saponins of Panax notoginseng combined with aspirin is effective and safe and can play a preventive role.

To observe the therapeutic effects of Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) combined with methotrexate (MTX) and sulfasalazine (SASP) on active rheumatoid arthritis, 63 patients were randomized with 32 patients in the treatment group who were treated with PNS+MTX+SASP. The rest 31 patients were treated with MTX+SASP as control. The joint pain index, tenderness index, swelling index and improvement of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein, rheumatoid factor (RF) and DAS28-3 scores were compared before and after treatment. Results showed the indexes of joint pain index, tenderness index and swelling index were significantly improved after treatment. The comparison between the treatment group and the control group was significant. The levels of ESR, C-reactive protein and RF in the treatment group were lower than those before treatment. The ESR and C-reactive protein in the control group were lower than those before treatment, the comparison between the treatment group and the control group was significantly different. The DAS28-3 scored treatment group was superior to the control group, and there was a significant difference. It was concluded that PNS combined with western medicine for rheumatoid arthritis can improve symptoms and reduce disease activity.

This paper presented an example of a skin care cosmetic as one of the first successful product developments incorporating the ideas of hormesis. This was based on the studies to analyze the molecular effects of active ingredients extracted from the roots of the Chinese herb Sanchi (Panax notoginseng) on gene expression at the level of mRNAs and proteins in human skin cells. The results showed that the ginsenosides extracted from Sanchi induced the transcription of stress genes and increased the synthesis of stress proteins, especially the heat shock protein HSP1A1 or Hsp70, in normal human keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. Furthermore, this extract also has significant positive effects against facial wrinkles and other symptoms of facial skin aging as tested clinically, which may be due to its hormetic mode of action by stress induced synthesis of chaperones involved in protein repair and removal of abnormal proteins.

This systematic review aims to evaluate current evidence for the benefit and side effect of oral Panax notoginseng preparation for coronary heart disease (CHD). 17 randomized clinical trials (17 papers and 1747 participants) were included. Comparing with no intervention on the basis of conventional therapy, oral Panax notoginseng could alleviate angina pectoris by improving electrocardiogram, decreasing the recurrence and duration of angina pectoris.

This paper assessed the evidence of Panax notoginseng preparations in patients suffering from unstable angina pectoris (UAP) using meta-analysis and systematic review methods. The outcomes include all-cause mortality, cardiac mortality, cardiovascular events, UAP symptoms, improvement of electrocardiogram and adverse events. Eighteen RCTs including 1828 patients were identified. Among 18 studies, 16 studies were prescribed P. notoginseng injections, and two studies were oral P. notoginseng preparations. Reduction of cardiovascular events, alleviation of angina pectoris symptoms, improvement of ECG and reduced frequency of angina pectoris were observed. It was concluded that Panax notoginseng is beneficial to UAP patients.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major public health problem and the chief cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.
